Why do you play?
I play cause I love games and competition. I love the game of lacrosse and my teammates. I got to go to a great school and get a great education, while playing lacrosse everyday with my closest friends in the Carrier Dome. Doesn't get much better than that!
Why are you a goalie?
I switched to goalie my sophomore year cause we really didn't have one, and I was the soccer goalie. I was sick of losing and decided I would do something about it. I wanted to be able to help win when the game was on the line. Plus I was the only one crazy enough to get between the pipes.
How important is the goalie position?
The goalie position is very important on the field. They help direct the defense, and work together with defenders as one unit. Once the goalie makes a save, they then become the quarter back of the offense, getting the ball up the field, finding the open players in transition
Any advice for aspiring goalies?
I think the goalie position is a lot of fun. I think it takes a great deal of focus and discipline. I like to be active, after ground balls and interceptions, you don't have to stay in the crease the whole game. I also think having a consistent accurate clear is important and creates a lot of opportunities for your team in transition. Footwork and angles are very important as well.
Quote regarding the goalie position
You have no control over what the other guy does. You only have control over what you do.
