Importance of Goalie Position The goalie is very important. Our defensive schemes and packages revolve around Tony Russo in the cage. His ability to stop the ball and to communicate to our defense allow us to give up certain shots and to mix-up our schemes during the course of a game. His abilities allow his teammates to work with a huge safety net. They know he can, and will, bail them out if they mess up. Their confidence in him allows them to play better as a unit.
