Importance of Goalie Position In my thinking goalie play is the key to the game of lacrosse; particularly, with our style of transition attacking lacrosse. We count on our goalie to make some key saves each game that will allow us to win. Goaltending and facing off win lacrosse games, with goaltending being the key ingredient. Some teams that slow down the pace of a game can survive with average goaltending, but to highlight transition, run and gun play you are going to, occasionally leave your defense a bit weak. The goalie must come up big in those situations.
