Importance of Goalie Position

A team's goalie can set the tone for a defense. A strong voice and confident presence can inspire an average defense to become great. Making the saves is a bonus.

Individually, the best goalies are athletic, fit and quick. Our goalies pass the same mile time as our field players to start both the fall and spring followed up with adjusted workouts for their agility and angles. I find that this involvement in the testing helps to facilitate bonding and the idea that they are all in "it" together.

Goalies also require a great deal of eye hand coordination. Part of this is innate...part can be tought with drills and further agility work.
