Brief Bio

“Perhaps the most appropriate word to describe the exploits of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse program under Michael Daly's tutelage would be "storybook."  It's safe to say that the most accurate word would be "successful", as the numbers simply speak for themselves:  54 victories (a .761 winning percentage), four Northeast-10 Conference regular season championships, three league playoff crowns and two straight appearances in the NCAA Division II National Championships.”

Importance of Goalie Position Well, I think that the goalie position is the backbone and soul of any lacrosse team. This person is the leader of the defense and she can set the tone for an entire team anytime during the game. One great or timely save, a lunging interception on a break-away or a great clear pass to the MF can change the whole momentum of a lacrosse game! The goalie can impact a game more than any other player on the field. And on defense, it is all about working together as one unit and to communicate as one to play great defense in a sport whose rules are set up to give the attack an advantage over the defense already! So, the goalie must be the leader of this defensive unit and the best communicator of them all, but also not have too fragile of an ego because goals will be scored in the lacrosse games. Now, how a goalie responds after a goal is scored sets the tone for the rest of the game and the rest of the defense, and sends them a message. Thus, a goalie, more than other player, MUST lead by example and recover and learn from game mistakes quickly on the field! For GREAT GOALIES, that ability to bounce right back and have a short-term memory in a lacrosse game and still lead the defense and remain confident, sets the tone for the entire team and makes a statement to your opponent that they will NOT score again on us! That style and positive attitude and confidence from your goalie will permeate your entire defense and the team and this is what helps make good lacrosse teams great! In lacrosse a great goalie can CARRY an entire team and still win big games when the field players are off that day. But, if a team plays great some day and your goalie has a bad day in goal, you cannot or likely will not win that game. That is how crucial good goalie play is in lacrosse. Without it on the lacrosse field, nothing else really matters in my opinion.
