Why do you play?
I love the team atmosphere that develops within athletics, and I enjoy having a constructive outlet for my competitive energy.
Why are you a goalie?
I enjoy feeling like I am in control. As the goalkeeper there is a lot of pressure, but in the simplest sense, you have control in that you can keep your team from losing by making saves. I love the intensity of the position.
How important is the goalie position?
It's definitely an important position, however, unless the goalkeeper has a strong team standing in front of him or her, he or she cannot be completely effective. Lacrosse is a team sport and it takes all 12 players on the field as well as the reserve players to create a strong team performance.
Any advice for aspiring goalies?
Start with the basics and develop your mental skills. The thing that separates the best goalies from the good ones are generally not athleticism or physical skill, but mental abilities. Goalkeepers must be able to deal with being scored on by staying calm, regrouping, and moving on quickly.
Quote regarding the goalie position
Being a goalkeeper can bring you many highs and lows. You must remember though that you're only as good as your next save.

Brooke Diamond just finished her lacrosse career this weekend with 25 saves in two games against undefeated TCNJ and Middlebury, and led Amherst to their first NCAA National Title. She was named the MVP of the Division III NCAA Tournament.

Brooke has been integral to our success over the past four years (three Final Four appearances). Her play has been inspirational and incredible!
