32, because Jen
Strahle, our goalie last year wore it, she had some luck in it-
so figured I’d give it a try. |

Larry Legend-
it’s a movie about Larry Bird, I have basketball in my heart
and in every sport I play, I try to be like Larry. My athleticism
may not be the best out there but I am going to try harder, want
it more and have the determination to beat you. |

Why do
you play?
I play lacrosse because it is hard and fun, not just anyone can
pick up a woman’s stick and play. More importantly though,
I play because I am a competitor. I want to be one of the best,
and in this league you get to play against the best from DIII day-in
and day-out, that’s something. I play because I love it, I
love working hard, I love the pressure, I love my team and most
importantly I love the pride I feel when I put that Bates jersey
on. |
Why are
you a goalie?
This year we were headed to LA for our spring training trip and
to play three regular season games, about two weeks before we were
headed we still didn’t have a goalie to go on the trip. So
I volunteered for the job, thinking I would teach myself how to
play for two weeks, play the three games out there and then be done
with it once we got home and the back-up goalie from last year would
take over. I had a lot of fun playing goal and didn’t do too
shabby for my first time ever with a coach and playing games. When
we got back I asked Wynn, my coach, if I was going to continue playing
goal and she said she yes unless I wanted her to fall off her chair,
so here I am today. It is a great position — I love the pressure
and the absolute thrill I get when I shut someone down. There is
nothing I like better than seeing the dejected look on a shooters
face when you stop a one on one. |
How important
is the goalie position?
Well even though I am kind of biased- of course the goalie is one
of the most important players on the field but s/he can only be
as good as her team is in front of her. It is after all a team sport-
a goalie can initiate the offense, and be a momentum shifter but
you can’t be a winning goalie if your offense isn’t
scoring and your team isn’t controlling the ball. |
Any advice
for aspiring goalies?
My advice to aspiring goalies is to remember to step to the ball,
have fun and most importantly remember that this is a game of scoring,
you are going to get scored on. The ball has to get by 11 other
players before it can go in the net. |
Quote
regarding the goalie position
The best goalies are the ones who have the mental toughness to shrug
off a goal and move on to the next save. |
