Number & Why |
26; really no
reason for the number. I had the option of being either 26 or 00.
I would have rather been 16 because that was my number all throughout
high school, however the goalie jerseys only come in 26 or 00. |

School Achievements
& Recognition |
Three year varsity
starter. Our team lost in the semis my sophomore year. Luckily,
we won the state championship my junior year against in-state rival
Cherry Creek. We went to the state championship again my senior
year but lost. |

College Achievements
& Recognition |
Captain my senior
year (2003). MVP for '03 season, Regional All-American ('03 and
I think '02, not quite sure). It was difficult being the only goalie
on the team; there was one other goalie my freshmen year but she
unfortunately quit. We attempted to recruit others, but they quit
as well. Although it was hard not having a back-up for three years,
I loved the pressure of having to always be on my game. |

Why do
you play lacrosse? Why are you a goalie?
I never really knew anything about lacrosse prior to going to Kent.
It was mandatory that in middle school and high school (except junior,
senior year) that all students play three sports. I picked up lacrosse
because my brother started playing. I loved how it was such a fast-paced
sport. I don't really know why I wanted to play goalie. I just gravitated
towards the position. I love the pressure of being in goal. There
is no feeling like the pressure of being the last line of defense
for your team. Knowing that a shot could mean the win or loss for
the team gets my heart racing and adrenaline pumping. |
How important
is the goalie position?
Mentally, the goalie position is the most difficult on the team.
You need to be mentally calm and stable no matter what you come
across, whether in practice or in games. Although your main objective
is to stop the ball, you are also in charge of organizing the defense.
It is crucial for the defense to work as one coherent body. A goalie
should be part of the crux of the team. You should be able to motivate
the team, yet stay calm when pressure rises. |
Any advice
for aspiring goalies?
Always know who you are. Being a goalie tests your mental capacity
and stability. I honestly believe that being a goalie is 10% physical,
90% mental. You need to stay strong, despite criticism or game losses.
Doubt is the biggest enemy. You have to trust yourself in the cage
and know that you are capable of anything you attempt. Another tip
-- DON'T THINK. You're only objective is to stop the ball and help
the defense. As soon as you start thinking about what you are doing
while in goal, your mind becomes clouded. That's when you start
"guessing" where the ball is going to go. Just follow
the ball and stop it. Period. |
Quote
regarding the goalie position
It's all about fun. Play each game like it is backyard lacrosse.
You are on the field playing with 11 other strong and fun women.
Nothing can compete, and nothing can compare. |
