Importance of Goalie Position The goalie is without question the most important and the most challenging position on the field. A great goalie is physically, mentally, and emotionally tough, in order to meet the unique demands of the position. When a goalie is at her best - when she really reaches her potential, is when she is also a team leader. It's exciting to watch a confident, cool, calm & collected goalie direct the defense in front of her. I'd urge younger goalies to learn as much as possible about the game, so that they feel comfortable asserting themselves as field captains out there!
