Why do you play?
I've always loved the thrill of competition. But i never knew how incredible being a part of a sports team could be until I got to college. Playing lacrosse is no longer a pastime for me, but my life. My teammates are no longer just teammates. They are my best friends, my family, and my competitors. I can not even imagine what life would be like without lacrosse.
Why are you a goalie?
I love pressure, and there is no pressure like being a goalie. Knowing that I could make or break a game forces me to stay focused. There is no feeling in the world like staring at the ball in the attackers stick as she lines up on the eight meter with 10 seconds left, and we're up by one... and you just know that you are about to make an incredible save and win the game. Not many positions carry that kind of weight.
How important is the goalie position?
Goalies set the tempo of the game. If the team is down, the goalie is the one to get them pumped up. When we make a great save, the whole team gets fired up. We are almost like the "quarterback" of lacrosse.

Any advice for aspiring goalies?
It has taken me years to figure this out, and I am still working on it, but the best goalies in the world gets scored on. You will get scored on. How you handle it and prepare for the next shot is what makes you a good goalie.

Be aggressive. When the attack sees you running out and intercepting their passes, they become unsure of themselves. They will see you as another defender to watch out for.

Be confident. If you aren't, than fake it. Attackers will have a field day with a goalie who looks scared. When you get scored on, take the ball out of the net, and keep your head held high, making sure your team knows that you are still in the game.

Quote regarding the goalie position
Being a goalie is a position that very few people can handle. It is 90% mental. If your head is in the game, than you will be unstoppable, no matter who you are.

Livvy is an incredible young woman...and an extremely talented goalie as well. She stepped up for the team in the early season, starting our first three games as just a first year student. She posted 4 saves and only one goal allowed in Lafayette, 11 saves and 11 goals against a talented PSU team and 9 saves and 7 goals against the ivy league Yale squad.

I have no doubt that Livvy will become one of the best goalies in the country during her four years here at JMU. She is competetive, coachable, and has an incredible learning curve. Most importantly, Livvy is a wonderful member of this team...always walking on the field with a smile and always giving her all.
