Why do you play?
I would hope the same reason anyone plays: I love lacrosse. No other sport can be so beautiful, technical, and tough at the same time.
Why are you a goalie?
Well I became a goalie for reasons listed above, but I've stayed a goalie because I love the position and the responsibility it brings. Of course lacrosse is a team game and you are as much a part of the team as anyone, but no one else has any responsibility once the shot leaves the stick. Plus while a bad game can make you look like the goat, a good game can leave the goalie looking like a hero much more so then any other individual player. There's nothing like that feeling of a huge save at a big moment of the game.
How important is the goalie position?
Of course I'm biased but I say the most important position on the field. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone of any position that will disagree with you though.
Any advice for aspiring goalies?
Pick up as many tips and listen to as many goalies as you possibly can. This means camps, camps, camps. Make sure not to listen to someone who thinks their word is the goalie gospel. Its all about finding your own style and perfecting it. This is done by just playing as much as you possibly can. You can never see too many shots.
