Lacrosse Number & Why I am number 26...there's really no rhyme or reason for my number. I've always preferred the number 1 in soccer, but my former coach just signed me up as number 26 because that was the goalie jersey she had. It has suited me well though.
High School & Hometown Collegiate School, Richmond VA
High School Achievements
& Recognition
The first lacrosse game I ever saw was the first one I played, which was in college. I came to RMC for soccer and was asked to play lacrosse, so I gave it a try. I never played lacrosse in high school.

Why do you play?
Lacrosse is a very fast-paced game, and it's a challenge every time you step onto the field. I play because it's fun and because I love the challenge of the sport. I also play to win, but I don't know anyone who doesn't.
Why are you a goalie?
There is something about the goalkeeping that really appeals to me. I enjoy being a leader on the field, which is essential for a goalkeeper, and I also love the challenge and pressure that the game brings.
How important is the goalie position?
Being a goalkeeper is not for everyone. Even though you're on a team, you're also the last line of defense, and your performance can make or break a game. It's a lot of pressure, but when you do well, it is more than worth it. It is a position that is very independent from other positions and tends to stand out in games, but goalies rarely receive the credit they may deserve. But it's always fun to shut out some of the top scorers in the nation.
Any advice for aspiring goalies?
Don't ever get frustrated with yourself. Being a lacrosse goalie is a very challenging position and can also be very frustrating. Realize what your personal expectations are for yourself in terms of lacrosse, and then do everything you can to reach that goal. The main reason that not everyone can be a goalkeeper is that it takes a certain drive and mentality in order to be successful in that position. Set goals for yourself and strive to achieve them...that is all you can ask of yourself.
Quote regarding the goalie position
All guts, no glory.

Comments from 2003:

Ashley has all these qualities [fearless, disciplined, composed]... she is very hard on herself and takes scored goals very hard, but she then attacks the next shots with power and strength... Her defense and her offense rely on her voice during practice, warmups and games, her positive energy is felt by all.... she is an encourager and a director....

I feel that Ashley's best quality comes in the fact that she will sacrifice herself for any ball and any situation. Being a lefty also helps her in protecting the cage and clearing the ball. In all Ashley had a great season, she led the conference for the majority of the year with Goals Against Average (it being quite low) and save percentage... she was also ranked top 10 nationally with save and goals against.... she was an Honorable mention all- ODAC this year as well! Ashley kept big games tight and kept us strong during games that took us a little longer to get moving for.... she was a huge asset for us and one of the reasons we went 11-5 this season!
