Coming from the Midwest:
Daring to Take the Plunge for Lacrosse
Not everyone lives in a lacrosse hotbed. What do you do
when you live in a town where kids rarely play lacrosse,
never mind get recruited by prep schools or colleges? Nick
Burnash knows — he packed up his belongings in Flint
Michigan and made the transition to Trinity-Pawling School
in New York.

What is The Real?
This feature is all about REAL stories and opinions by the goalies
themselves.
Do you have an interesting situation, story or event? Drop
us a line to become part of THE REAL!
From Bloomfield to Beantown
Kristin Demorest, a midwest All-American in high school, has
left her home in Bloomfield Township, Michigan to learn the ways
of Beantown, both in the classroom and in the lacrosse field battles
at Harvard University. Kristin will share her experiences and
emotions of her college career at her dream school.
Coming from the Midwest
Nick Burnash is just another lacrosse goalie playing at just
another boarding school — nothing exciting. So what's the
catch? Nick is from Flint, Michigan. Flint fell off the map with
the departure of the auto factories to Mexico, but Nick is proving
that being one of the few boys in the country who started with
a women’s coach in the men’s game and being from Flint
really means nothing when it comes to stopping the ball.
The REAL is tracking Nick through his first year away from home
at the Trinity Pawling School in New York. From his emotions in
leaving his family to the growing pains of succeeding in a top
New York prep school, we will track his growth and interview all
those involved with his development.
Getting Recruited
Abby Bangser is slated to be one of the best senior goalies in
2004. The REAL is tracking just where Abby will play come 2005.
A standout goalie from Conard High school in West Hartford, CT,
Abby attracted the likes of Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, and
Syracuse to name a few by her Junior summer.
The REAL is following Abby through the summer months and into
the senior fall. Abby will take us through the recruiting process
and candidly discuss her recruiting experience from speaking with
the big time coaches, the pre-official visits, the emotions, the
decisions to the verbal commitment.
